Henrik photographed in Vihti, a wealthy municipality close to the capital. The farms he photographed are, with only a few exceptions, larger than average arable farms by Finnish standards. Many of the houses were built in 19th century to accommodate families of three generations and their servants, but are now inhabited by nuclear families of four or five members. Yrjö worked in Hankasalmi, Central Finland, where the farms are smaller. On these farms forestry and dairy farming are supplemented with, for example, strawberry growing, bee keeping and woodworking. Farm holidays and direct sales of produce attract visitors from the towns.
