Mika Taanila - Black and White Movies

MIKA TAANILA’S Black and White Movies is based on a series of photograms depicting the remains of old VHS tapes destroyed by the author with varying methods. The book combines a conceptual approach with personal significance and debates on the relationship between recording technology and art. Afterword by Olaf Möller.

”Note that the photograms have the same titles as the movies once stored on the now smithereened tapes. For Taanila, creating these photograms was like copying the films: they still live in these images, albeit as transformations.” – Olaf Möller
